Intrastate Carriers

Intrastate (California only) carriers are required to have the following:

California Authority

CA number:  This is an identification number issued by the California Highway Patrol.

Motor Carrier Permit:  This permit is required to pick up and deliver loads within California.

BIT Program:  The Biennial Inspection of Terminals Program is run by the California Highway Patrol, and
its purpose is to ensure that all carriers maintain safe equipment and that all laws regarding safety and paperwork are followed.  Each carrier will receive an initial inspection approximately 9 months after the start of business, then every 2 years after that.

Employer Pull Notice Program (Requester Code):  Any company that employs drivers is also required to have an Employer Pull Notice Program.  This program keeps trucking company management apprised of the driving records of all drivers.

Drug Consortium and Safety Program

Every trucking company is required to have a government-approved drug testing program in place – no matter how many trucks are in the fleet, and no matter how many drivers there are.  This is a genuine program written just for you, and includes all the necessary materials.

2290

The IRS Form 2290 is the Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax.  This tax is paid for all trucks registered at 55,000 pounds or more that operate on public roads.  Your stamped receipt from the IRS is required before registering your truck.
